How the Automation it will Impact Our Society
Automation is the employment of electronics and computer-operated devices to take control of procedures. The purpose of automation would be to enhance productivity and safety. Typically, however, automation simplifies labor. Actually, analysts now fear that new technological innovations will eventually increase unemployment rates.
In many production factories today, robotic assembly lines are gradually performing functions that human workers used to do. The term production alludes to transforming raw materials and components into finished goods, usually on a large scale at a factory.
Automation includes many different essential elements, systems, and job roles in most industries. It’s particularly frequent in transport, manufacturing, facility operations, and utilities.
Automation today is part of most functions within the industry including sales, installation, integration, procurement, maintenance, and even marketing.
Automation and the office environment
During the last 40 years, information technology has totally transformed the workplace atmosphere. Important functions such as documenting, communicating, filling, and correspondence have become completely computerized. Modern offices are completely different from what used to exist in the past.
The common office desk used to be taken of materials and equipment. Some examples included telephone books, cables, calculators, folders full of paper records, staplers. Even though some traditional office employees still keep some of those items in their desks, engineering, and automation have eradicated the need for most of them.
Automation and flexible working
Technological innovations have changed most office workers from a rigid schedule to a more flexible one. It is possible to work from anyplace nowadays, and it is thanks to the Internet, laptops, smartphones, online storage, and tablets. But this benefit is more than just working wherever we like, but also whenever we want to.
This adaptability means that people are now better prepared to manage their work-life balance. But, it also means that we now have a new dilemma; we can’t turn off from work completely.
Automation in the manufacturing environment
Manufacturing has experienced enormous changes over the last few decades. Employment in production processes in the developed economies has decreased drastically. A clear example of that is seen in the United States, 20 years ago, 14% percent of the country workforce worked in manufacturing, contrasted to just 8% today. That decline happened in two decades!
Another major factor that has played a crucial role in that is the fact that some jobs have shifted overseas to countries with cheaper labor costs. Yet, a considerable percentage of the loss has been caused by automation.
Specialists say that the percentage of decrease in manufacturing employment won’t slow down. In fact, most of them estimate the problem will get worse.
Number of robots rising fast
Robots are becoming more advanced and skilled in executing sophisticated tasks. The high costs involved with modifying a traditional factory to an automated one is changing. It is getting cheaper to turn to full automation.
Automation and massive unemployment
There is an increasing dilemma that in the next decades, only those professionals with specialized abilities will be able to find jobs. Probably artists, talented musicians, and others with skills that people admire will be able to keep their jobs.
