This is an interesting case on why a customer needs to be aware about the quality of assemblies. A few days ago, a new internet customer called our company Readytogocables. He asked one of our sales guys for a quote on a DB25 pigtail.

Michael (as I refer to him) explained over the phone that the cable assembly was needed to complete the construction of an Audio recording studio in a High School in California. I asked for the details on the assembly including the type of wire, hoods and gender of the connector. The customer came back with the following information:

  • DB25 Male
  • Not sure about the type of hoods
  • Standard Wire for this custom cable
  • Picture of the assembly

When I saw these details, I then realized a few interesting points to address:

  1. This project was for a high end customer that might have required extra attention.
  2. The cable did not have a grommet from the picture.
  3. The customer was not sure about the wire gauge, this needed to be addressed.
  4. The pinout of the cable was unknown.
  5. The Cable needed to be shielded

We then understood that the customer needed a little extra help figuring out what he needed correctly. Right away we started working on creating the drawings and suggesting the (24 AWG) wire with a PVC jacket, grommets at the end of the hood where the connector meets the wire, metal hoods, and a lead time of 3 days on 49 pcs that needed to be built. The customer was surprised on how the existing cables that were at the job did not have grommets causing them to move loosely where the hood touches the wire. We also proceeded to create a spec sheet with the cable specifications and using Belden wire.

At the end, the spec sheet was approved by the customer. He gave the approval to start the building process right away. We then proceeded to order the wire, and start building the assembly. We value our customer’s time and we build the cables with the highest quality possible. This project was completed on a 3 day production time. The cable had shiny metal hoods, wire that was cut exactly at 30ft of length, pins that were individually solder to each one of the conductors of the wire carefully, and a grommet that fit perfectly to lock the wire to the hood tightly.

After 2 weeks of sending the cable, the customer called us back to thank us for the neat work. He noted the quality on the custom cables, the importance of having all details on a spec sheet (Free to anyone), and the quick shipping (Free over $1000) to California. In return, we told him that our commitment was to build quality products that satisfied and exceeded the customer’s.
